Top 5 Things That Horses Avoid

Horses are magnificent creatures. But as great as they are, they have their quirks and dislikes. Most of us think of horses as animals that do anything for a cube of sugar or sweets. Most horses are not as "dumb" as people think. They are quick, intelligent and aware of many things around them.

Here are some things that horses would like to avoid:

Water

Water is one element that horses like tot avoid whenever they can. Water is seen as anathema to them but this is not always the case for some horses. Some horses actually enjoy the rain as is but making them cross a pool of water in the track is something they would avoid and may even crash into each other merely to avoid it.

It is nor known why some horses avoid the water and some attribute it to the various training methods used by the trainers them selves, others attribute it to an gene that came about during cross breeding.

Excessive force

While slapping of certain areas like the hind flanks or quarters of the horse is okay during race, it is the slapping or hitting of other places of the body that is excessive. The horses neck area is sensitive and should not be hit with in any way.

Horses are conditioned with a training whip that is used to catch their attention and usually after the horse has gotten rid of the habit, the whip is removed. Those that keep on using the whip stress the horse further for everything that they do lets them taste the whip. They do not know which is right and wrong and this can lead to an unhealthy attitude of the horse.

Maltreatment

Maltreatment comes in many forms. People thing animal cruelty right away and maltreatment does not have to be a purely physical thing. It may come in the form of inattentiveness. The horse may not be fed regularly or the proper medication or food treatment is not given the full attention and left to chance. Maltreatment may also be not looking out for the cleanliness or hygiene of the horse. The overall forgetfulness or inattentiveness of the horse is the worst type pf maltreatment.

Other rival horses

Horses can also sense the hostility fro other horses. This may not mean that horses "hate" each other but it could be a simple incompatibility that all animals have in common.

By and far, horses are creatures that are whimsical, loving and caring. One simply has to know how to treat them right so that they can perform at their best.
